China, Pakistan Ink MoU to Develop 150 MW Wind Energy Projects

Reon-MOU

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Reon Energy Ltd. and China’s SANY Renewable Energy Ltd. have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop 150 megawatts (MW) of wind energy projects in Pakistan’s commercial and industrial (C\&I) sector, according to a report by Gwadar Pro on Tuesday.

Reon Energy described the agreement as the beginning of a strategic partnership aimed at promoting renewable energy solutions in Pakistan. “With a shared vision for a sustainable future, both parties aim to jointly develop EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) projects in the C\&I segment, starting with a 150 MW target,” the company said.

The collaboration reflects growing interest from Pakistan’s private sector in adopting Chinese wind power technology. In 2024, companies such as Lucky Cement, Yunus Textile Mills, and Liberty Mills in Karachi commissioned wind power plants using turbines manufactured by China’s Goldwind. These installations were executed by Pakistan’s Orient Energy Systems, which has a 150 MW supply agreement with Goldwind.

The demand for Chinese solar energy solutions in Pakistan is also gaining momentum. On April 24, China’s Huasun signed an exclusive 500 MW heterojunction modules distribution agreement with Pakistan’s Bahum Associates. A day later, Orient Energy Systems announced an agreement to install a 7 MW solar park at Servis Long March (SLM) Tires—a China-Pakistan joint venture. Previously, a 2 MW solar plant had also been installed at the same facility.

These developments underline the strengthening energy collaboration between China and Pakistan, particularly in the renewable sector.
